I spend a lot of time managing bids on 1000s of keywords so they do NOT show up in the #1 position. Ideally I want them no higher than #3. When they came out with position preferences I eagerly tried it out, and while it did a decent job of maintaining my position my impressions seemed to go way down. Obviously clicks are going to go down if an ad that was normally displayed as #1 is now #3, but why would impressions go down? I can't figure out any other reason, but at the same time it doesn't seem possible that a position preference of 3-10+ would make your impressions go down. Was it just a fluke?
