In your opinion what is the best way to use Google Adwords to generate leads for local business. We find that a few of our very local clients get lackluster results. What can a landing page offer to either entice an adwords clicker to call or fill out a form?

I heard putting fliers on windshields works awesome! Not exactly adwords, but very targetted nonetheless.

It's not internet marketing, but it probably gives you a larger audience than geotargeted AdWords would give you.

Speaking further on offline methods, I see a lot of lawn signs at highway exits and high-traffic intersections (many of them for dating sites), so perhaps that's a good idea as well.

Use geo targetting ...

In your ads mention the location... and the landing page should be based on the ad... i.e. it should also say abt the location, services and offers you are providing....

I think that should help out better.....

Driving traffic to the landing page through geotargeted adwords is not the problem. Converting the visitors IS!

I don't know what kind of business you are talking about - didn't the Google Local listings give you the opportunity to offer coupons and whatnot? If that's relevant to the business model, you could try that - those show up alongside Google Maps.

traffic is not normally the problem with geo targeted adwords advertising...you are right, conversion is usually the biggest problem.

Once your AdWords account is running smoothly, if you are still not getting sales or leads, focus on your landing pages and website:

even if you use geo targeting, you still want to make sure that your keywords use links that are relevant. in other words, if you sell red shoes and blue shoes, your red shoe keywords should definitely link to the page for red shoes.

the landing page should look professional

check your spelling

you portray credibility by having information about your company on your website (bottom footer, contact us page, about us page)

most of the time pictures are great and sometimes they do more harm so choose your pictures carefully and if you sell products, try to have at least one if not multiple pictures of each product.

what sets you apart from your competitors or what is the current promotion? make sure that is easy to see: free shipping, 100% customer satisfaction, unconditional guarantee, 2 for 1, 10% off

use calls to action (call now, limited offer, etc.)

Are you speaking about a actual brick-and-mortar? I've worked with local clients in the past and, though I've had some success with AdWords and SEO, I've found that there is much more potential on the backend with Internet Marketing.

In addition to using the website as a prospecting tool, use it to get existing customers to engage more frequently. Increasing the number of customer visits per year is often much more profitable that trying to locate new customers.

Another thing I found to be effective in the local market was very creative, very personalized sequential email campaigns. Because these are often face-to-face relationships, a very personalized, informal, friendly email campaign can be very effective.

Most local ads look like hell! Take some time to analyze
your landing page. Does it look inviting? Hows your ad copy
does it make sense? Is the site navigable with ease?

Local or national your site has to work. Take it apart bit by bit
and put it back to gather as best you can. In 75% of the cases
it will help.

If I use a data card for my laptop, how am I recognized? Am I a bad customer for someone looking to geo-target? In other words, if I go out of the area I am in, into another state, will geo-targeted ads still appear for me from my home state?
