When do bid changes take effect?

Are changes to my max CPC effective immediately or like pausing ads is there a delay for the new max CPC to take effect? If a delay, any one know how long it is?

In case it matters, my interest in this is limited to ads on google.com.

There's a delay, just like when you pause/resume or change ads. I've never measured them closely, but the delay for all of those seems to be in the same ballpark (around 3-5 minutes).

there is definetly a delay with everything on Adwords. It is faster then competitors to institute account changes but it can be anywhere from a few minutes to a 1/2 hour to see a change take effect.

Bummer, I was hoping changes to ones max CPC were effective either immediately or at least sooner than the typical delay for paused ads and such. This is particularly frustrating when someone bid jams your ad, you react by reducing your max CPC to get below them and then have to just sit there indefinetely watching your ad get jammed until Google decides to recognize your new max CPC.
