I think this is not just a deep pockets issue - I think it is a time issue as well. There are number of big spending bods out there who have lost all their traffic. Obviously the deeper your pockets - perhpas the easier it is simply to up your bids. But I think there is more to it than that.

A lot of their new requirements involve considerable amounts of time to conform to. The smaller the business, there tends to be less man-power, and therefore less ability to spend the time conforming. The larger companies, either have dedicated personal who spend all their time making sure that Adwords is running efficiently etc. The smaller companies tend to have someone that looks after the Adwords stuff - at the same time as doing a whole host of other things.

Adwords, in itself, is becoming a full-time job for most people. Especially if you manage very large, or multiple accounts. The end result is a two tier class structure - with those that can either spend the time or the money remaining visible, and those that simply disappear further and further down the search engines. It seems to be a no win situation for a lot of people.

quick question.
should i increase a keyword to minimum CPC even if it has a "poor" QS?
the increase is 10 cents more than my max.

Only you can answer that one. 10c more is not too bad if you are bidding $2 a click - however, if you were originally only bidding 5c a click, then unless that keyword is very important to your adgroup I wouldn't. If it is very important, you might try to create a new adgroup and target that word specifically, and try to improve the QS so that you eventually don't have to pay the additional 10c.

Ok, what just changed?

I carried at least 1500 "Inactives" for several weeks now out of a 50k account. I left them be since I would see impressions on some once in a while.

I've been involved in unrelated work and haven't barely touched a site, bid or ad. The most I did was raise about 300 keywords that were short of the mininum bid by a nickle or so one day.

Now I have but 67 Inactive keywords.

Why does Google work in such mysterious ways?

I actually miss the old days when a keyword went inactive after 90 days with 0 impressions. It suited my needs well.

I've seen much the same - about 25% of my keywords went inactive a few weeks ago. This how no detectable effect on either impressions or clicks. Yesterday they all became active again - again without any detectable effect on either impressions or clicks.

However, my average cost per click seems to have increased a little.

seems now that about 80% of my kw's on the optimized campaign that was so graciously done for me by the G's reps have gone to the crappers.....all cpc min. bids are 5.00 or higher......

what is even more disturbing is kw's with the highest ctrs of about 25% or higher are naturally (of course! right?) carrying minimum bids of 10.00 now....
so once again 'quality score=greedy bid'

Que: has anyone seen there minumum bids mysterious lowered from say 1.00, 5.00, 10.00 ever?

I think the best than would be to delete that keyword from there and create a new ad-group for that (if your adgroup have a low ctr)

I raised the reasonable ones and I'm back to exactly 67 inactives again. Is that co-incidence or bug or feature. It is 2/3's rounded if that has any significance....
