How does AdWords treat advanced searches?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm trying to figure out how AdWords treats "advanced" searches such as:

"buy blue widget" +california

In terms of displaying ads, does that simply match "buy blue widget" i.e. for the purposes of matching ads to search terms it throws out things like +, - , etc.?

In response to the search you suggest, I believe the Ad could show for the following keywords:

buy blue widget (broad & phrase)
california
buy blue widget california (broad & phrase)
california buy blue widget (broad & phrase)
buy blue widget california california (exact)

I don't think it would show for:
buy blue widget (exact)
widget
blue widget
