AdWords Heart Attack

Watch when you check today's stats...

Earlier in the day, I couldn't check the current stats, because 2007 wasn't yet an option in the year pop-up.

A couple minutes ago, I checked my AdWords account, and it was there now. So, I changed the second date to today's date, and clicked "Go."

Imagine my surprise (and corresponding lack of oxygen) when I saw the total at the bottom was quite significantly higher than the previous total for December 31, 2006. I immediately paused all the campaigns, and immediately set about trying to figure out how I could have racked up such a large bill in AdWords, when the total was much, much greater than my total daily budget.

And, then I saw that, when I changed to 2007 on the end date, somehow it defaulted to the opening of my AdWords campaign (a couple years ago) on the begin date.

So, the total was my all-time AdWords total, and not the current amount.

When I adjusted the start date, then the amount was more reasonable. Whew!

So, especially those of you who've spent a significant amount of money on AdWords in the past, you might want to be careful when you change to 2007. ;-)

Did anyone else have a similar occurrence when you checked this year's results? I know that I only changed the end date, not the start date.
