Unexpected Headline

I bid on the broad matched keyword 'widget blue'.
I also bid on the exact matched keyword 'blue widget'.
My ads in this adgroup are all headlined {KeyWord:Blue Widgets}

Today I searched on 'blue widget nationwide'.

I expected to show on the broad match 'widget blue' and see my default headline 'blue widgets' as the actual search term 'blue widget nationwide' is 30 characters long.

My ad did show up but the headline was 'Widget Blue' and not the default 'Blue Widgets'.

It seems that google used my broad mathced keyword as the headline.

I have no idea what's going on. Any help would be appreciated

Apparantly it matched on the broad widget blue, so apparantly that is used for the headline...

remember, what is searched for is not what gets inserted into your ad, it's the matching keyword from your accout that gets inserted.

so the 30 char length of what was searched for is irrelevant.

you got broad matched and it inserted the broad match term/keyword from your account, just as it should.

you exact match is plural and includes the nationwide word as well, so it didn't trigger as the matching keyword.

Thanks BarryM and RhinoF. That clears up a biggie for me. I thought Google inserts the searchterm not the matching keyword from my adgroup.

i wonder how many other obvious ones like that I'm making mistakes with :-)

Thanks!
