Google Using An Autodialer To Cold Call?

I looked around and did not see anything on this, but yesterday my phone rang twice with "Google" on the caller ID.

I pick up the phone and the message was slightly cut off the first time:

"Please press 1 if you spend less than $5000 per month, Please press 2 if you have the budget to spend $5000 or more per month and are interested in our Premium Services. Please press 3 if you are interested in job opportunities."

I hit 2 and am taken to a voicemail box. Hit zero to speak to an operator, and I am transferred to the Google Chicago office and leave a voicemail.

Less than 5 minutes later the phone rings again, Google on the caller id. Same message. This time I hit 2 and leave a voicemail.

I just thought the whole thing was pretty strange and was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience?

Sounds very suspicious.

Perhaps you should call google and see if it is legit.

I think it was legit, the one time I navigated away from the voicemail I got to their Chicago office extension.

Hopefully today I will recieve return calls from my messages.

hehe... cool stuff - I assume they called you because you are an existing caller with the phone on profile, or were these cold-calls?

Actually I would be all for getting into their premium program, and actually asked the last rep I talked to, what it would take to get into it.

I just found it really strange that they would call without a person on the phone and use some sort of automatic system to do the recruiting.

People wonder if this was someone playing a joke on me. The called id said "Google", which should have maybe said "Google, Inc" so perhaps it was?

We did make a huge spike in ad spend last month doing about 20x what we normally do, so maybe we somehow got on the radar?

Actually I just checked another phone and that one says "Google Inc". The first was vonage, the second was a land line. So that may make up the discrepancy. Both were routed through the vonage line. Called at 4:26pm and then 4:29pm on 12.07.06
