I'd like to get a list of (possible/probable) factors that influence the display/rank of adwords. Please feel free to join in.
Several weeks ago I was searching for widgets and refreshed the first page of results 5 times - each refresh showed a *very* different results from the previous page. Granted, most of the advertisers were the same, but positions changed *radically*, in and out of the blue premium bar, 11 advertisers, 3 advertisers, no advertisers ... you get the idea.
The real question - Why do the adwords displayed vary so much? (I have seen mostly stable results with minimum changing)
Anyhow I got to wondering - so here in no particular order of importance is a start
A: Keyword/s entered by user
B: Mix of Advertiser Match types (broad, phrase, exact, negatives)
C: Advertiser variables - QS, CTR, MinCPC, dayparting, Display Options - ie Accelerated
D: Google PA algo - I think I read somewhere that the premium bar can disappear if you don't click on it (I gather this is session based)
E: Number of advertisers - I think I'm seeing the same advertisers rotated over a couple of pages if there a less than 20 advertisers
Can you think of any more?
Cheers
Why do the adwords displayed vary so much?
I don't see that variety, but I'm sure it's happening. Google has said that they changed the algo they use to display ads to incorporate whether "it" thinks you (as a visitor) want to see ads. So, it makes sense that it "sees" that you haven't clicked, and after a few refreshes it decides not to annoy you with the same ads or any ads at all.
That's one definite factor, that is public.
