Sub nickel bids possible?

Or am I misunderstanding something?

I've been away from AdWords for quite a long time. I went back in recently and poked around a bit, and after playing with the pricing/CPC estimation part of the control panel, it seemed that it was possible to get bids under a nickel (for very lackluster terms obviously).

Is this true? I thought AdWords had a minimum bid of 5 cents. If it is true, is it on both natural search and content or just the content network?

Thanks.

Here's a recent thread on the topic:

poster_boy,

Thanks. There are a few cross currents on that thread. Is it a reasonable conclusion to make from that thread that sub-nickel bids are possible, but in hotly contested keyword area Google is, whether through policiy or the by-product of policy, setting minimum bids significantly above that to keep things "clean"?

For various accts for our clients, I have hundreds of KWs with bids at $0.04, $0.03, $0.02, and yes, even $0.01.

That's right: $0.01. One cent. A penny. And our clients pay $0.01 for the click.

There is no standard minimum bid. Each acct has its own minimum bids. What may be a minimum bid at $0.05 for you may be $0.10 for me.

It depends on the quality of your acct: is the landing page relevant, do you have good CTR, etc. Improve your AG, improve your landing page, and you'll get better min bids.
