How Many Ads Does Google Serve Everyday?

Kind of an un-answerable question I know, but a friend just asked me if I knew how many ad impressions Google delivers each day, and what the split is between search and content.

Obviously it varies tremendously, but does anyone know any stats about this?

Thanks,
Neil

shaka1978, I can't resist re-telling an old family joke, used when some one asks about a number or quantity of some sort that is basically unanswerable. It varies from telling to telling, but goes essentially like this:

Well, if you take half the number and multiply that by two, you'd come pretty close to having the exact right answer.

Yes - my family is absolutely hilarious. We've got a million others, too, just as good.

Forgive me. A long day. ;)

You can make a rough estimate for fun if you like, provided you have a decent sized adwords account. If you make the (rough!) assumption that your account is fairly representative of google's customer base, then you can divide Google's quarterly adwords revenue (public information, reported in its 10Q filings) by your spending over a 3 month period to get a rough ratio of Total Google to your account. You can then multiply that ratio by your clicks and impressions to get Total Google clicks and impressions.

If an average figure for CPC were available, and with Google ad revenue figures to hand, you could, knowing that average CTR is (or was) around 2% across the board, work it out quite simply... I think... :-)

Well if I look at my 5 biggest accounts for Q3:

Spend: $526,000
Impressions 33,879,657

So, $1.87B (G revenue for Q3) / $526K is 3554. If I multiply my impressions by 3554 I get:

120,408,300,978

So, 120B impressions per quarter.

Approx. 1.33B impressions per day worldwide.

Wildly inaccurate I expect but as good a guess as I make.

Thanks,
Neil

How Many Ads Does Google Serve Everyday?

I always thought the answer was "googles of 'em" ;-)

or maybe that's the projection figure for the fourth quarter of 2010 ..

It would be nice if they had a realtime counter on the adwords home page. A great Ego show :) especially when you plug in myspace and youtube ;)
