Can you exclude pages your ads show by including negative kws?

Example: if I am advertising "widgets", can I exclude pages showing "blue widgets" by placing -blue as a kw?

Does anyone including AWA have any idea?

You should use them. They will help Google develop a theme for your ad group that will determine what sites your ad will be shown on. The negative keyword could still appear on a page that your ad shows up on as Google does not screen out pages specifically with that negative keyword although the chances of it appearing on a site with that keyword are decreased if you add the negative keyword. If you have not already, you may want to also consider adding a block on certain sites in the content network.

I find it helps - but is not 100% effective.

I guess it depends on what other content you have and what other ads are available
