Problem Posting Campaign in AdWords Editor

What am I missing here?

I'm having a problem posting a campaign in the AdWords editor - the campaign has a start date on it of 11/29/04. I am changing the search network options for that campaign. When I try to post it, it says "Error. We couldn't post your campaign. Please edit your campaign start date." But if I try to edit my campaign start date, it says "It isn't possible to edit the start date for a campaign that has already begun. Please re-enter the original date."

Is this a bug or a feature? Please don't tell me I have to delete the campaign and re-enter it in order for my changes to be posted.

Also, while I'm at it, I'm at 25 campaigns and I needed room to add some more, so I'm having to consolidate some of my lesser campaigns and fold them into other existing campaigns as Ad Groups (that's what happens when you have over 1500 products and only get 25 campaigns - hint hint hint) So once I've done that, I've deleted the old campaign - but it still shows in the list albeit greyed out and with a line through it. Screen space being at a premium (even on a 22" monitor) is there any way to get the deleted campaign out of there? In Tools/Settings I've set it not to show any deleted items, but it's still there.

This is AdWords Editor 2.0, by the way.

I ran into the same issue as you.

My solution was to delete the date, then re-enter the date and try again and it worked...go figure.

My solution was to go do it in the AdWords online interface, I was just wondering what was going on with the AdWords editor.

Ah, maybe I won't rush to download AE tonight as I am being prompted to on seemingly every screen...

I had same issue re date. I also noted a much more sever problem the other day - perhaps I did something "blond" I'm not sure, but worth checking out. I increased my bids in an number of adgroups in the AE - uploaded them. Wondered why I was getting a decrease in traffic - when I went to look in Adwords it had defaulted all the keywords to a much lower amount on all of the ammended adgroups.....Really screwed my figures. Changed them all to what they should have been, then all the keywords went into review. Deep joy!

I think there are still a few bugs in AE, although generally I really like it. The date problem existed in the test version, only it was the end date not the start date. I guess they fixed that one and another hole in the programme has appeared.

I've passed your posts along to the right folks, netmeg, and we'll look into it. Thanks. ;) (Will do the same with the other, newer, comments as well...)

netmeg, I'd suggest contacting AdWords support, briefly outline your situation and describe why you'll need more than 25 campaigns. This may very well do the trick for you.

netmeg,

You can cleanout the editor by deleting its data files (now 2). Then it will re-download you new campaigns and will cleanup the deleted ones.

The two files are deep down in your documents and settings folder. Search for ape.db and delete that and the other db file next to it.

When you restart you'll get a clean copy of your campaigns.

In my experience too AdWords Editor seems to confuse itself over campaign start dates. I've also found it never successfully pauses or unpauses campaigns or adgroups. I've always had to do this manually after an upload.

Thanks, sailorjwd. I was just gonna uninstall it and reinstall if I couldn't do it any other way.

Easier said than done - in my experience. I tried to uninstall the test version I had and install the new version - what a nightmare! Best of luck!

I'll happily pass feedback from this thread along to the right folks - so your AE comments are welcomed, whether positive or negative.

Please re-enter the original date."

netmeg, I imagine that you've long since gotten things squared away with the above mentioned campaign. Still, if you have occasion to try something similar again, please let me know if you find the problem has been resolved. (I believe that it has been, but certainly want to hear about it if not.) Thanks!

The same applies to anyone else who experienced this, of course. ;)

'kay, I haven't opened it up yet to see if it's all copacetic. However, I did take your advice and ask for more campaigns, and THAT situation was resolved most satisfactorily indeed, so thank you very much.

I'm getting that start campaign date problem again - it seems to happen any time I try to change anything at a campaign setting level - keywords, adgroups, text ads - all that works just fine. But I just tried to up the budget on a campaign in AE, and it tells me the same thing - to edit my campaign start date (which of course, I can't do because it's an existing running campaign)

AdWords editor is a POS, get used to errors, deleting and re-opening accounts.

Or pay for the API.
