I had a successful PPC campaign setup on Adwords. I was spending around $60 per day, and about $.23 per click. I paused the campaign for about 7 days while I made updates to the site. I resumed the campaign 1 week ago and it did almost nothing. Turns out the campaign was stopped by google because the URL wasn't working they say ... even though it WAS!. Now, three days later, I'm still only getting $7 per day of spend on that campaign (compared to the $60 before) and each click is costing me $.31 per click - nearly 25% more!

What the hell happened?!?!? Does anyone understand this? God! Maybe some of you think all this Google masterminding and all their algorithms are cool ... but this stuff is frustrating as hell for a relative PPC novice!

Can someone please enlighten me? :(

I have heard rumor that Google discounts or lowers the quality score for paused campaigns. I have no proof of this other than someone else's hearsay from speaking to a Google Rep.

I have seen this on one of my accounts recently as well. I had clicks down to about 21 cents, and they went back to 30 cents or so when resumed. They are now back down to 25 cents or so and continue to go down.

Give it some time and see if adjusts. Market factors could lead to an increase of a few cents or more, so it is definately not conclusive.

Interesting. Yes, I have personally seen how prices do optimize over time. I didn't realize simply pausing for a week would cause a complete reset though!

You know as a side note - my organic rankings also slipped at almost exactly the same time. They went from not great to jsut plain bad. Could this be related? Any rumors of a connection here?

They are making up for lost revenue during "pauses" ;)
