Adwords have suggested that I open an MCC account. Can anyone give me any advice as to whether there are any advantages/disadvantages to doing this? Apart from my own sites - of which I have about 12, I only manage two other accounts for other people, both of whihc are set up in their own names etc. It is a constant problem not being able to have more than 24 campaigns, and so MCC would definately eleviate this, but apart from that I manage OK. The problem being that I would like to start a new project with my step-son, however I do not want him to have access to my current Adwords account - just in case he messes something up! However the intention is to pay for his Adwords from the same business account. Therefore google suggested a MCC account. However, it is not possible to have the monthly billing facility on the his new adwords account until it has spent a specific amount of money. I do not think that this will happen for some time, as I think we will start off quite slowly.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend utilizing an MCC to make your life easier. Not only can you reach all your accounts quickly, but you also consolidate your 'spending' power in Google's eyes. You can have your son log directly into the account that you both co-manage, that way he can't get into your other accounts and change anything.

Not sure what you mean by "consolidate spending" - could you be a bit more specific. Do you mean that all the accounts can be added together and one is presented with one bill at the end of the month? Because if this is the case, it is the opposite to what they told me. They said I could not have my monthly billing facility on any new account within the MCC group until that account had spent £2500 a month for three consequitive months. Whilst I spend considerably more than this, I am sure my stepson won't be spending in this league. However as I am fitting the bill for his advertising it would make sense for me to have one monthly bill - of you get my drift.

It doesn't have anything to do with the billings for the various accounts - in my MCC account, I have clients who are on net invoicing terms, and clients who are prepay. Whether or not it makes a difference in Google's eyes that you are actually 'managing' the combined spend of the accounts - I have no idea. But I for one could not do what I do with all my accounts if I didn't have the MCC; it makes things MUCH easier.

Set up the separate account for the project with your son. Give him the password to that one, and then link it into your MCC with your other accounts. That way he will get to see just his one account, and you'll have overall access to everything.

Yes it does make a difference, at least at the agency level. It's not about managing the billing, it's about how much spend you are managing under your MCC.

I wouldn't worry about that, I would just set up an MCC to make your life easier in terms of day to day management of your accounts.

I know it makes a difference as far as qualifications for GAP, and it probably makes a difference as to whether you get a refrigerator or some other gift; other than that, what sigificance does it have to Google? I'm just curious.

Is it necessary to be a GAP in order to get the account?
