Setting up new campaign

should I keep the old one running?

Finally, after reading this forum I've came to the point of reorganizing my catch-all campaign.
Now my intent to make it more structured, more targeted, and more relevant.

I am going live with new campaigns and adgroups while the old campaign is running. Is this the right way to do it or should I build the new campaigns completely first, turn off the old campaing and start the new campaign? The same keywords are used in the old and new campaigns, so I'm wondering if this has any effect.

Thanks!

Ideally you should not have more than one campaign in the same geo area for a given keyword.

If you do I believe that G will decide which Ad to show (not sure if this is rotation, or ranking based.)

I would recommend running your new site alongside the existing one long enough to ensure it is fully active, then turning off the existing campaign. You may want to reduce your bids for the existing campaign while you're running in parallel.

Yes, you should keep your old campaign running till the time you feel the new one is doing well enough or as per your expectations.

someone recently posted that he ran both campaigns, then after a while he reduced the CPCn the old one to 1p - therefore forcing google to show his higher priced adverts - then he turned the old one off. By doing this you are creating a quality score for your new campaigns before you have deleted the old one.

An update:
I lowered the bid on the old campaing (not to 0.05c, but by about 1/4 and increased the bids on the new campaign a little over the level of the old campaign.)

A week after the change the new campaign does attract some clicks now, but most of the clicks (and quality clicks for the gold keyowrds) still come from the old campagin.

Is this to be expected?

I guess the new campaign hasn't got its own quality score yet - patience!

Trannack,
How long usually does it take for the qulity score to accumulate?

If memory serves me, the person who posted on this a while back, I think he ran them alongside each other for about 2 months. Perhaps someone else has got a more accurate figure.

it's about number of impressions, not necessarily time

How many impressions then, Mike?

Think I may have read somewhere around 1000 impressions - but could be wrong.

Sorry, I don't know the exact number. 1000 impressions was an old number referring to something else. This is part of G's "secret" algo
