I have keywords on my list that are getting 0 (or a small number of impressions) This makes their CTR 0% and that brings down the average....can I leave these in or should I remove them?

There is a difference between those getting zero and those getting 3/4 the latter does bring down CTR although along slightly, in fact it is rather minuscule. Those with zero impressions affect your account in other ways but do not affect your CTR.

Mainly: Recommended Daily Budget (RDB), if you have an account where the recommended daily budget is higher that your current budget, then your account will be slowed as it starts to get close to that set budget. Keywords with zero impressions are included in the recommended daily budget calculations, so if you have lots of keywords doing nothing your RDB will be higher than it needs to be and you account will slow unnecessarily

Hope this helps,
Alan

NOTE: This is as I understand it, there is a small chance I could be wrong, but I was given this information direct from GAW

Obviously you need to give the keywords time to start working for you. I've found it can take several weeks before changes to some of my AdGroups have been fully reviewed and are properly displaying on both search and content networks.

Assuming you've allowed sufficient time, then:

Removing keywords with zero (or very low impressions) would have little or no effect on your calculated CTR. Removing keywords with high numbers of impressions and few clicks would increase your CTR - but would this provide a benefit anywhere?

IMHO you should look at your keywords and try to limit to those that genuinely reflect your site, and what it offers the surfer.

If I remove keywords that have few impressions/responses, then I loose all my stats on them. If I add them later, will I be able to see previous analytics?

If you have no impressions - you have no stats to lose!

If you are bidding on keywords that return you no, or few impressions surely you need to either create a new adgroup to target these keywords or remove them as they are not doing you any good IMHO.

There are stats for the words I considered removing. They are simply variations on the main keyword for the adgroup (plural, misspelling, etc.), so it wouldn't be appropriate to give them their own adgroup.

So my question still wasn't answered. If I add a previously deleted keyword that HAD stats associated with it back to my adgroup, will the stats be gone in historical reports?

~I believe so. However I thought that there was no longer any need to bid on mis-spellings/plurals etc as Google automatically does this. Perhaps I am wrong....

I don't know...it was my understanding that they never did misspellings (maybe corrected someone, yes) and that they do plurals only when the word is set as broad match.

shdsofblu, From what i belive, they WILL appear in reports, just like they appear in the adgroups when viewing historical data, providing you have the show deleted checkbox clicked.

Nothing is ever deleted from your account only disabled and hidden.
