If you run a MCC acount are you able to run campaigns for companies that sell similar products? I read the double serving policy and that seems to indicate no, however, I have to imagine some of those large SEM firms have to have clients that are in the same market. For example if I was running ads for EA sports could I also be allowed to take the SEGA account? They both would have similar keyword lists, but it would be two entirely different companies. If they were fine with you running both would it be allowed?

With MCCs, each account should be a separate customer (except in cases where you're linking accounts together).

Along those lines, using the same keyword in multiple accounts is in line with Google's TOS.

Yes, you can manage several different accounts, all advertising with the same keywords to either the same website or each to different websites. MCC accounts also receive free $50 credits and Pro accounts receive $100 credits.
