One campaign allows image ads, other not.

What am I missing here. I have two campaigns set up, both with G/search network disabled, targeting only the content network. One allows me to create image ads and in the other (which has been up and running for a year), I only have the option to create a new text ad ¦ Local Business ad ¦ Video Ad.

What am I doing wrong?

If it is an adult ad or perhaps in another restricted category, I don't think they allow image ads. At least they did not last time I checked.

both target a perfectly innocent topic. I'm giving up and spending my time on something else. :)

ok, thanks. But it's odd that yesterday, on a new content-only campaign, I set up new image ads. Maybe it's only on older campaigns.

Same as, same as...it's there for a new content-only campaign I started a week back, can't see it for a content-only campaign that's been around for months.

I've been scratching my head trying to work out what difference there may be between the two campaigns re: settings, etc but I think they're identical in every way. G will sort it out hopefully.

Sorry esllou (and others) - somehow I missed this thread till now. I am pretty sure I know what is up here, but it will take me about 20 minutes to write a coherent response, which is time I don't have available at this moment. ;)

I will return by the end of the day, however, with more details.

In the meantime, please try this:

* Go to Edit Campaign Settings page

* If you have selected the "All Languages" option, and I'll bet you have, you'll want to change this

* Either select only those languages you truly wish to target, or

* If you really do want all languages then left click on the first language shown under the 'All Languages' option and drag your mouse down the entire list to select them all (or otherwise select the entire list in a way that is appropriate to your browser)

* Save changes

That should do the trick for you. ;)

More later, as time and tasks allow...

thanks ASA, I did what you said and the image ad returned.

I can't wait for the explanation for this one! :)

I can't wait for the explanation for this one! :)

Better late than never, right?

Rather than trying to explain this in coherent paragraph form, I'm going to fall back on my old favorite: bullet points. ;)

But before we get to the bullet points, I need to set the stage with this:

Can I target my image ads to different languages?
[adwords.google.com...]

Quoting from the above:

Yes. Currently, you may target your image ads to the following languages:

Chinese (simplified)
Danish
Dutch
English
Finnish
French
German
Hungarian
Italian
Japanese
Korean
Norwegian
Polish
Portuguese
Russian
Spanish
Swedish
Turkish

We look forward to offering more language options in the future.

Now, back to the promised bullet points:

* You'll see from the above that image ads may be targeted only to certain languages at present.

* Image ads created in 'unsupported' languages can not be shown.

* We'd like to save advertisers the trouble (some would say anquish!) of creating images ads that can't be shown - so we remove the 'Create Image Ads' link when a campaign is targeted entirely to unsupported languages.

* On the other hand, when a campaign targets at least one supported language, then the 'Create Image Ad' link does appear.

* However, because of an interdependency, if an advertiser selects the "All Languages" option the 'Create Image Ad' link goes away. We've recognized that this is not ideal, and it'll be revised.

* Again, because of interdependencies, it'll likely take a couple of weeks before you see it change - and the workaround I mentioned previously will assist you till then.

I hope that makes it clear. ;)

Thanks, that helps me to understand. I've got the image ads showing now anyway but appreciate the time you took to explain.
