Rearranging kws in different adgroups

I have a large account with a great number of kws. I have been with adwords since the start, consequently, the adgroups were put together without the knowledge of what we now have. I would like to bundle groups of keywords in new adgroups, but am worried about loosing their accumulated history. Here are some strategies I have thought of:

1. Add kws in new adgroups, but leave old kws "as is". Remove old kws when new group starts to move well.

2. Add kws in new adgroups, raise the price in the new adgroup and remove old kws.

3. Keep related kws in their adgroups and remove the unrelated kws to new adgroups.

Anyone have any other ideas that may work better?

Based on my experience, the risk with rearranging keywords within the same account (especially using the same creatives) is usually exagerrated.

I'd certainly suggest protecting yourself by leaving your existing groups as is until you're comfortable with the switch...

But, restructure away... adjust the bids slightly lower in the old group... and monitor from there. My guess is - you'll be fine. I've restructured groups within accounts with significant history countless times without any negative impact.

Good luck.

I dont agree that there is no impact on rearranging the adgroups or campaigns within an account. We moved some keywords from one campaign into another and were hit very badly. The keywords that were showing up in the top5 were now pushed to page 3 and 4 - the max cpc etc was kept the same when we moved over. Now, since we "lost keyword history" - we have to make a fresh start - and thats extremely expensive. I wish I could "reverse" what we did :(
