Best way to alter destination URLs?

Does it matter?

I need to change the destination URLs for all of our ads in every campaign. Basically I'm just going to be adding some additional tracking stuff to the end.

Should I just go ahead and create new but identical ads for each and every one with the new destination URLs and show each one 50%, and then in a day or two when the new ones have some "history" I can go ahead and delete the old ads?

Or should I create the new ads, also modify the URLs for the existing ads and just use the new ads temporarily for a day or two until the old/existing ads are reviewed/re-enabled?

My understanding is that as soon as I modify the URLs on the existing ads they will become inactive until reviewed?

I forgot to ask ... does modifying an ad only put it on hold for review in regards to the search and content networks, but not Google search? Reason I ask is that any time I create a new ad it starts being used immediately on Google search, so it doesn't make sense that modifying an ad would put it on hold if creating a new one doesn't.

Modifying your copy or URL only impacts the syndication networks.

There are two processes that I follow when making mass changes: #1. Your idea of creating duplicate creatives, deleting the old versions once the new ones have been approved -or- #2. Requesting a bulk sheet of your account, submitting with changes made - requesting that approval occur before overwriting existing creatives.

I'm just focusing on the question of mass changing destination url's on adwords...

I have been using the beta of 'adwords editor' and its made life so much easier! one of the neatest tools is where you can bulk change destination urls

without going into exactly how you do this, suffice to say its easy and fast
- go into the adgroup you want to edit
- set the urls by order so you can hihlight the urls that are hte same
- highlight those urls'
- and in the dialogue box at the bottom of the page edit the URL
- then all teh highlighted url's automatically edit
- and finally upload your changes

Its a very fast process and you dont have to delete the keywords!
