Content match and google search at the same time

Does anyone know if the quality score for the content search and google search are independent. Can a bad quality score from the content search penalize the quality score of google search.

I am asking because i want to know if it makes sense to split a campaign into two campaigns, one content and one google search, or can I safely activate both networks on one campaign.

Somewhere, I think it specifically states that Content Network performance doesn't affect search performance.

In other words - what happens on the content network stays on the content network.
