Should my CPC drop as I build history?

New account with no history

So I created an AdWords account and I'm bidding on a bunch of terms. It's been 4 days now, and overall I am averaging about $0.50 CPC with a 3-5% CTR on all ads.

I'm promoting a unique site that offers a free service, very relevant, "landing page quality" should be considered good, etc. I'm also using their conversion tracking (for now) and conversions at my site are averaging over 30%.

My #1 question is, as my account builds up some history should I expect to see my CPCs drop? I've had about 6000 clicks so far. I assume that starting out I am paying higher CPCs since the account/ads have no history, and that CPCs should drop over time as I would consider my CTRs etc to be "above average". Does this sound about right?

You will probably never pay less than you are currently being charged. Google keeps 'upping' what they they charge at a rate much higher than any discount you might see down the road for a good click thru rate.

If your average CPC is say $1 now, do not expect to ever pay lower than that in the future.

Hi,

My experience is that my CPC has slowly dropped over time for one reason or another, ie things have slowly gotten better as time has gone on, partially due to tuning my campaigns, more negative keywords, etc, etc.

Don't tell people things that are flat-out not true.

I'm paying a lot less today. Many of my so called competitors have dropped out. Clients are VERY happy.

Okay then it is just a lie. Anyone who has used adwords for even a short amount of time knows what you said is not true.

Of course your bid price can be lowered from where it starts off as a new account. Several other people in this thread confirmed it, and I will throw my hat in there as well.

There is nothing accurate about your statement.
