Pausing Keywords?

I need to pause some keywords, but may use them again in the future. Is there a way to change the status of a keyword from active to paused within an ad group?

or

If I delete the keywords will they still show up in red like when you delete adgroups? If that's the case I can just delete these words and turn them on at a later date.

I was reading an article on the Google Help center about moving keywords or ad text to different locations in my account. I was wondering would this be a better idea than deleting them?

I was going to create a new adgroup and move the keywords I want to pause there. I don't see any way of pausing keywords inside a specific adgroup so I thought this might work.

Anybody have a suggestion?

One way to accomplish this is to lower the Max Bid to .01 for the keywords you want to pause. If your Max Bid will then be lower than the minimum required for the keyword, the keyword will be inactive, which effectively pauses it until you raise the bid.

You can also just delete the keyword. The keyword will retain its history and will still show up as deleted in the ad group. There is a little check box to 'include deleted items that were active in this date range' which will show all deleted keywords and ads as long as they were active in the selected date range.

How do I go about making my deleted keywords active again once I do this? I deleted one and it shows up at the bottom, but I don't see how to reinstate the word at a later date. I am running the budget optimizer on the main campaign...do I have to turn this off to bring back my keywords?

Ok so I set my max CPC to $.01 and now my words are inactive for search; which is what I wanted, but now I want to reinstate the keyword I deleted and do the same to it. I'm not sure how to do this. Do I have to completely re-write the ad and use the deleted keyword as a reference or is there a way to simply restore it?

To restore your keyword, just add it back to the ad group that you removed it from. When you add it back in it will retain its history.
