Re-approval after making a change in keywords?

Also a keyword match problem...

Hi, I've joined the Adwords three days ago for the first time. As some of my keywords are "sensetive" few of my ads needed approval first to become live.

Yesterday those were approved but there was a problem I was using "blue widgets" as keyword. According to their instrucions my ads also should appear for a "big blue widgets" or for a "my blue widgets help" search but they are not!

Today I've changed my keyword to blue widgets from "blue widgets" for broad matching but my ads disappeared.

So, do the ads containing sensetive keywords needs re-approval for every change? If that's true what parts? any changes to ad itself or it's keywords?

Thanks,
Arty

Arty2003, in the eyes of the AdWords system blue widgets as a broad match and "blue widgets" as a phrase match are two entirely different keywords. So the new keyword would have to be reviewed/approved in order for your ad to show, if it was on the 'sensitive' list.

So, do the ads containing sensetive keywords needs re-approval for every change? If that's true what parts? any changes to ad itself or it's keywords?

It is difficult to make a blanket statement here, as when 'sensitive' topics/keywords are involved it is literally handled on a case-by-case basis.

But generally speaking, any change to the ad will cause the ad to need to be reviewed/approved before appearing on Google, if the ad is regarding 'sensitive' subjects. And this is very likely to be the case with the keywords as well.

AWA, thanks for the reply.

It seems like in that case they need to be re-approved, when I made a change in the keywords. And they will stop displaying till re-approval...

But what I didn't get is the why the phrase match not worked.. At help pages at states that if the keyword is "tennis shoes" my ad will also show for (red tennis shoes) along with (tennis shoes) searches.

But in my case I've set my keyword to "blue widgets" but it didn't show up for (big blue widgets), that's why I've changed it to broad match.

Any opinions?

Difficult to say without seeing the account, Arty2003.

It could even be that when you looked for those variations of the phrase match your ad was simply not showing due to a lower than recommended Daily Budget.

One thing that I would say, though, as a general principal - and this applies to both Broad Matched and Phrase Matched keywords:

If there are particular variations that you know you want to show for, then you'd do well to simply add them to your keyword list - perhaps even as exact matches. Then, so long as the minimum CTR continues to be met (and daily budget is sufficient), you'll show for those variations.

AWA,
I have a problem, and I contacted your gury but still now they do not give me a reply.
one of our keyword, I set its Max. CPC is $0.2 and one day it clicked 15 times, but the Avg.CPC cost $0.52! means this keyword that day cost $7.8

Do you know why?

Really difficult to say, Aimee, without seeing the account. I wonder if it is a matter of looking at the wrong date range?

One thing that really caught my eye is the Maximum CPC of $0.02 you mentioned. Assuming US dollars, the minimum cost per click is $0.05 - so the ads shouldn't have been able to show at all. Is it possible that you set it to 2.00 rather than 0.02?

In any case, this really requires a look at the account - and for that, AdWords Support is your best bet.

FYI AWA that was $0.2 or 20 cents not $0.02.

Cheers

Oops! Thanks RedWolf.

I reckon that is the first mistake I've made since the day that I thought I made a mistake, but was wrong.

(Yes, probably another too much coffee day!)
