If I have two ads in an ad group, each with a headline, should I check or uncheck the box to have adwords select the ad with the closest headline?

I remember reading somewhere that Google will switch back and forth on showing the ads but can't remember if the box needs to be checked or unchecked.

What I want is for the ad with a matching keyword to show.

Thanks

If you check the box, AdWords will favor the ad that gets a higher CTR and show it more often when it collects enough data. If you are just after CTR check the box.

If you want to run a test to see which ad converts better and have a way to track it, you may want to uncheck the box so each ad will be served the same amount and you'll find the ad that makes you more money, generates more leads, etc..

Excellent info, skibum.

Just wanted to add a clarification regarding this quote:

zeus661, I just wanted to make sure you didn't walk away with the impression that the system will begin to favor the ad with the closest headline. (This may end up being the case, since that ad might have the highest CTR, being more targeted - but it is certainly not a given.)

Bottom line though, it works just as skibum outlined.

You know I should have said "each with a different headline".

Suppose I am selling "widgets" and in my keywords I have "blue widgets" and "red widgets". If I place "blue widgets" and "red widgets" in two different ad headlines and a search for "red widgets" is done will that ad show over the "blue widget" ad?

Possible.
(There are so many answers your question: Yes, Maybe, Mostlikely ... if ...)

You should use a dynamic title for this case so that the kw searched and title shown are always matched.

Please explain what a dynamic title is. Or post a link to the info. Thanks
