Will AdWords do the same?
If I have these 3 phrases in an AdGroup:
buy widget
"buy widget"
[buy widget]
Which phrase will be triggered by the search
buy a widget
(ignoring CTR, CPC etcetera)
Thanks,
Gert
If some mysterious, un-disclosed, threshold for Boradmatching on that phrase is not met, they will no longer broadmatch on that phrase.
What is even better, they don't tell you that your term is no longer broadmatching. You are reduced to running searches yourself to find out!
I would recommend adding
"buy a widget"
"buy some widgets"
"I want to buy a widget"
"I want to buy some widgets"
"how do I buy some widgets"
etc. etc. etc. etc. etc x 1000!
defeats the whole purpose of broadmatching, but, well, there you are....
I would recommend adding"buy a widget"
"buy some widgets"
"I want to buy a widget"
"I want to buy some widgets"etc. etc.
It is the etc. etc. part that has me concerned... oh well, I better start typing then.

"buy a widget"
"buy some widgets"
"I want to buy a widget"
"I want to buy some widgets"
It's not quite as difficult as it appears.
In the above, "buy a widget" will also be shown for the search "I want to buy a widget", as "buy a widget" appears in both tersm.
The same goes for "buy some widgets" as its included in "I want to buy some widgets".
Those four origional terms can be reduced to two.
Many phrase matches can be boiled down to include a lot of exact matches, just make sure you use appropriate negative keywords with the phrases.
Broad matching is very different in how it works, and you're right, since its possible for a term you think is broadmatched to actually be reduced to a phrase match in the account without knowing about it, then you have to be careful.
On a side note, wonder how many of the 'impressions are down' posts, used broad matches, and now the KWs are phrase matches and they just don't know it.

Or in my case, angry. while I understand the necessity for the change, to do it quietly and to not inform the advertiser in the reports that Broadmatching is 'off' borders on 'bait & switch'!

exactly. I think many (most?) are unaware of this change.
