Why are these keywords showing <0.1 C/D?

Today I tried making a test ad, and to my surprise, the traffic estimator listed the estimated clicks per day for my keyword to be <0.1. I know this is a popular keyword, since there are many AdWords ads that come up for it. Then I tried the keyword "sex". Same thing, even when I tried a 50$ CPC. Does Google give certain advertisers exclusive rights to certain keywords, or are they phasing these words out all together? We aren't talking about copyrighted terms either. Thanks for your help.

The traffic estimator also works off of what max CPC you used. So if your ad will be in 50th place, you'll get less traffic than inf 1st place.

The estimator has been known to be way off. I belive it takes into account daily budget, your ad placement, and average CTRs of how others have done with that keyword.

As I said, I tried these keywords with a CPC of $50 and they still showed up at <0.1. Is it just that there are too many people that use these keywords, so in essence there is no more room?

Missed the $50CPC.

G does not give anyone exclusive rights to KWs unless the KW is trademarked - and thats a whole other story.

Must just be an issue with the estimator and those KWs - happens on occasion.

I agree with eWhisper.

Really, I'd heartily advise that you not let the traffic estimator scare you away from using a keyword you believe in, because it has given you a low click estimate.

IMO, just use the keyword, and watch your stats for a few days until you can judge what happens in the real world. Your actual stats will always be more meaningful than an estimate.

Also, please remember that the estimator has no way to judge how well targeted your keywords and ads are, nor how well written the ads are. These two factors largely determine the number of clicks you'll get per day.

To return to my silly example from the past: if you run on the keyword 'cat' (which the estimator would predict you'll get a lot of clicks for), and then show an ad about Dogs - well, you probably won't be getting too many clicks.

I think you may be missing the bigger picture here.

Go to AdWords and try submitting an ad with the keywords "hot sex", CPC $50. A low estimate would be 100 clicks per day. Thats very low. The estimator says those words will yield <0.1 clicks per day.

Something is up.

The traffic estimator does that sometimes. Don't pay attention to what it says. Bid what you are willing to pay and watch your stats.
