I have a tracking program that shows what search words were used to find me. Now that I am using adwords if I click on the tracking link to see where I was in the search am I charged for the click through adwords? In other words, do they consider that a new search because I am checking to see my placement? The same applies with AOL search. I now pay per click for AOL because of adwords. I always go in and check my tracking to see where in the search I was located.

Beach_lady, I'm not quite sure I followed that. But if you are only checking position, you won't be charged, because a 'click' has not occured.

Let me know if I've missed something. As I've said before, I'm not the most techy person in the world. ;)

Can I sticky this to you to show what I mean?

Actually, I'd prefer if we could be more specific in this thread rather than taking it offline. For example, I'm not sure what you mean when you say:

...if I click on the tracking link to see where I was in the search am I charged for the click through adwords?

And in the quote below, if you're only checking placement, then no clicks have occured. Are you wondering if an impression is counted, rather than a click?

In other words, do they consider that a new search because I am checking to see my placement?

Anyone else have any thoughts here? As I've said, I'm no expert when it comes to third party tracking programs or server logs.

Ok, I just clicked on one of the links to see what happens. You're right. It doesn't click through to my site but only to the page where the ad was located. I was afraid that it would open to my site and could be counted against me. The reason I thought this was that they would have click on my ad rather than a search listing. I was afraid that if I clicked on that it would be like clicking on the ad again. Please bear with me as I am still very new at all this.

I know the feeling Beach_lady - I've been there! (And still am, on one subject or another, practically every day!)
