Probably some simple already answered questions but..

I'm wiped out of my biggest money making pages in the SERPS. Gone, nowhere to be found after being in the top 1-3 with several phrase variations. Now that I'm using Adwords will any of those pages ever come back in the regular SERPS?

Also. I'm listed in those little boxes off to the right on search pages at the top rather than at the top of the search returns. Maybe a no brainer, but is it the highest bidder that gets that position?

Maybe, but being in or out of AdWords will make no difference

Not quite. Google use a mixture of Max CPC and ad CTR to determine listing position. If users like your ad (find it relevant etc), then G reward you by listing you higher.

In theory, if you write the best ads, you can be #1 with a lower CPC than your competitors.

Thanks for the reply Troll..I did find some other useful infromation after the post. I feel my add is well writen and to the point...and does get to the main subject page immediately, opposed to the others that send you to their index page where the information takes time finding.

I sure hope this ad word thingie works! It's not a highly searched matter..only 160 impressions yesterday, but two sales per week is all I need. It does no good being in those lil boxes! Guess I'll have to notch up the bid again.

Hardwood Guy, be careful about continously increasing your bids - your competitors will likely do the same and you end up paying more for the same traffic. My experience shows that you're better off researching and adding more search terms through the Overture and Google search terms suggestion tools than just bidding more for generic terms.

Interesting chat here which has certainly helped me hit the top spot for some phrases..

Thanks! I'm wondering if they pay attention to this particular item. I mean they offer hundreds of other product selections and I don't think they're really on top of things. I did fairly well without adwords and willing to spend if it works. If it doesn't....well

I could always "cheat" like the devil and get back into the SERPS like one competitor? Frankly I don't think google looks for cheats anymore. I know one that's been using hidden text, redirects etc for over a year and now they're beating me to death. All with only 30 or so pages and very limited content.

What does google want thesedays?

Just ranting.

Hardwood Guy, I'm sure there's at least a dozen threads elsewhere that you could join with your Google SERPS ranting.

However, there was also an interesting thread from someone that was bidding on his own site name on Adwords even though he was top of the SERPS. The amazing thing is, it works for him and he makes a profit from it. Of course we didn't get to find out the product - he had to talk about blue widgets as usual.

I have an adwords programme running as an affiliate where I was competing with the merchant themselves on Adwords for their brand name. I fully expected an instruction to cease or limit bidding on their brand name, as quite often happens. But their reaction was far more intelligent - they just stopped competing with me. Now I'm in the "G-Spot" (As coined by Shak's string elsewhere) above them at the top of the SERPS and probably get more traffic. It's win-win I guess - they sell more product and don't have the hassle of managing their own PPC, I have less competition so make more money. If only all merchants were so creative :)
