Where can I find information that explains how to get started with Adwords? Looking a description of what it is and how to start. I read that one could launch a Google Adword campaign for a short time to see if customers are interested in a particular product, if the price is reasonable, etc. Thanks.

The adwords adwords.google.com/select/ pages answer a lot of questions.
You are in total control. You can turn it on and off as you see fit. We started a small campaign with a low bid and a low daily max. It has never gone over the max and really hasn't been a lot of money.
The big plus for us is that it reinforced our keyword selections. You can toss up a whole new set of keywords and see which ones are being searched for. If a keyword isn't performing, you just dump it.
What information are you looking for beyond the google FAQ's?

Thanks for the information. The links you gave me were helpful. Did you base what keywords were being searched on by the click throughs you had or some other feature of Adwords?

If you want to see how many searches are performed on a term, you can get a good idea from the number of impressions that you get over the time period. This can be a bit of if your budget is not high enough for the ad to be displayed all the time, or your ad is not far enough up to get on the first page.

We looked at the impressions. We tossed 13 keywords up. They are industry specific, so a low bid amount works.

We are showing 3.9 average position with a 2.9 ctr. Bottom line.......Client is happy.
