I know that you can use names of your competition as keywords as long as they do not object and prove to G that they are a registered trademark holder. That's all fine but I have a question related to how far G let's you go regarding ad texts shown on names of competitors.
Sofar I've used fairly neutral ads stating benefits of our products but if I want to get the CTR up I should make the titles more "aggresive". So rather than "Great widgets" the title would be "Cheaper widgets than XYZ".
My question is how far can you go here without the ad being disapproved?

This is pretty much handled on a case by case basis, and is dependent on what a given trademark owner has specifically requested be allowed - or not allowed.
I guess my best advice would be to try the ad that you have in mind, and see what happens. I'd certainly avoid expressing negative opinions about your competitors in your ads, though. This would likely result in ad disapproval.

Actually, I got one like that kicked out, but that was because "Competitor Name" did not want their name used in anyone's ads period. I've had okay luck with certain others, though.
