If Adwords is based on relevance, why the ebay and nextag ads for
just about any search term even if they don't sell it?

You type some words in google. Adwords ads come up that say, "Find ___________ on ebay" or BizRate or Nextag when you KNOW they don't sell whatever that is on those websites. How is this "relevant" to my search?

When you bid on hundreds of thousands of keywords, these kind of inconsistencies do happen, i guess.

It does seem a little ridiculous at times, but It also seems that most of the time Ebay will have some item that is somehow related to most anything a person can enter into a search engine. :)

Another question along these lines -- Many of those ads seem dynamic but as "fill-in the blank" as you mentioned. I know how to use {Keyword:backup}, but is there a way to append standard words to your keyword such as "Find [kw]" or "Buy [kw]"?

Easy - just type "Find {Keyword:default product}" into the title line.

adwords rank is a function of bid price and ctr.
welcome to the power of broad match and brand.
adwords has changed as much in the last two months as the G serps have. the former is driven by money, the later is driven by authority.
