Well, I spent my first $3.63 on the first click-through.

So once you get click-throughs (on the first day, whoa!), what is the best practice? I can dig down in the control panel and see the keyword selected and I can possibly dig down on my server logs to see where the guy came from and what he saw.

But now? What optimization strategies do I implement? I'd rather start NOW instead of when the click-throughs start "streaming in" like a stampede...

It's pretty hard to justify optimising anything based on one click. I would hold off on going all out on that key phrase until a larger sampling is available. Can't judge a trend based on one yahoo in the world being on the same wavelength as you. If it were 100 yahoos, then you got something to work with IMO. :)

$3,63 is very HIGH for your 1st PPC click through, NO matter what industry you are in!

and have you got ANY roi tracking in place?

Don't mean to sound negative, but be very careful at those prices, there are ruthless bidders out there, who will take you to the wall just for the sake of it.

Maybe I was a bit over-ethusiastic. However I hope there's more clicks coming in.

May question was more in the area WHAT to check, WHEN the check and HOW to prepare to be on top of things right from the beginning.

I can't even find that buggar in my log analysis software - need to crawl the logfile myself. I guess a good point to start wi is changing/configuring my log analyzer to suit the AdWords-game...

I use the Webtrends LogAnalyzer 7. I assume I can have it tracking the results - I was a bit in a hurry earlier. At least I can browse through the logs - it's not THAT much.

The mentioning about $3.63 being high was a bit worriesome. We are in a niche market and I directed the campaign only for German-speaking users. There are some big guys in the US bidding themselves in Overture to click-prices of $19 and higher - but not in Google and not in Germany.

Can I find out what my competitor offered, or even WHO he is?

I would think that would be very easy by entering the search term when you go check who your competition is and writing down the url of the ones above and below.
