I am experiencing my worst times with Google now. The recent update has nearly killed my earning from Adsense. I have never used any black hat techniques to trick the search engines. All my pages are content based. Some of my competitors don’t have any content expect Adsense on it. Some images around those ads are still on top on SERPs in Google.com

Has anyone experiencing this.

My ctr/cpm is the same but traffic is way down over the last two days - a 5 year old content site. Adsense earning are back to the level of 2003 when i signed up.

Longen I have a question.

What kind of traffic does a 5 year old site has?

I am new only a year and a half and have few thousand visitors per day. But I am hoping that if I continue to post few pages of content each day within 5 years I plan to have few million unique visitors per month. Is this realistic expectation?

If yes, and let's assume that your traffic falls from few million uniqes per month after a search engine update, how much does it fall? How many percent?

Thank you.

No-one can tell you this. How many searches are performed for your keywords everyday? If you took the top positions on every term...how many visitors would you have. Different terms/keywords=different amount of visitors.

Isn't there like a general number that you could guess?

Who can guarantee that in 5 years I will be on the top of the search results on all of my main keywords?

Strangely over the last 2 years with adsense I noticed something very odd!

Normally I get about a 100 dollars a day, spread acros say 15 small sites. This has been very consistent total but comes from different sites in different months/years as google search either likes or ignores different sites.

Now for a few days I have been getting half the usual page views... But income stayed the same, click through improved markedly, and epc improved. So the ecpm doubled!.

Also a few months ago traffic doubled due to some major site linking to one of my sites from the front page. Now I expected more money! But no. Click through fell, epc fell, across ALL SITES same earnings as usual!

Its as if someone at google took a look at your sites and estimated a fixed "worth or value" to your content.

The same thing happened when a massive number of doorway pages got indexed by google. HUGE number of visitors, same income!

I believe something changed yesterday. A page that used to earn me a three figure sum everyday (from Google traffic alone) tanked back in Feb to almost zero traffic. It came back with a bang yesterday, top of the SERPS and back to its old level of traffic. I only wish I could isolate what got it back there but I can't, sorry.

What kind of traffic does a 5 year old site has?

In my niche i was getting 3,500 daily - now dropping to 1,500.

I didn't have the technical knowledge in the past so the site might not have developed as well as it could. I didn't deal with the non-www 301 redirect until March this year, google has over 50K pages indexed instead of the real 6K pages.
Waiting for the next update.

The site actually went from PR5 to PR6 in July.

Sure, between 1 hit and 5 million hits per day...not very useful. You need to reasearch your niche and the terms/keywords that are searched for. One site may doing great getting 200 hits a day in a certain niche and one may be doing terrible getting 10 times that amount...all depends on how many searches are done by users.

Who can guarantee that in 5 years I will be on the top of the search results on all of my main keywords?

Again, no-one can. As you can see from those posting in this thread you can be moving along great and then drop into oblivion. There are no guarantees you'll be around next week let alone in 5 years.

No one's earning has been effected in the recent google update.

I've been getting the same kind of results...

I have a website that'd been getting approx. 500 visits a day (yes, I know, not that much) but since late September, I've only been getting about half
that. The website has Google PR 4, about 165 pages of unique content and 30 backlinks. It's been up since early 2004.

I suppose I'm looking for a reason same as
you. Does anyone have any answers to this sudden drop in traffic?

VKworld, apart from looking at changes in search engines algos your drop could be seasonal (check the traffic curves for the past years). Also a competitive site might be getting better rankings for certain keywords and taking part of your traffic.

I've heard rumors that in the next week or so, Google will be doing a major update. I've seen a massive amount of G spidering yesterday and last night, and some of my pages are shuffling in the SERP's as well.

Plus, we're about due for a PR and backlink update too.

Fortunately, my earnings haven't suffered because pages that sank ae being replaced with traffic from pages that never earned before.

The next few days will be interesting to watch ;-)

They will be even more interesting to not watch. I'm tired of "watching" - because there's nothing you or I can do.

Just let it dance - I'll be laying in my recliner watching television while you pace about in front of your computer watching your pages disappear and re-appear.

Doritos anyone?

There's a lot of discussion of the Google update in the Google News forum. You'll find much more helpful information there than here.

(There's also a thread in the Webmaster World Supporters Forum, which requires a paid subscription for access.)

I hope that's the case, but my earnings dropped from $500+ down to only about $150+ a day. It hurts.

My traffic and money took a bad hit on 9/22 and are back in full force on 10/18.

NoLimits, I can assure you I won't be pacing back and forth, but it will be interesting to watch nonetheless.

I either got click dumped or the ad targeting suddenly got better, because my CTR and earnings are much higher today than the monthly average. Here's to hoping it will become the norm again.
