How is your experience with link units?

I think they are great if properly implemented, but I see a very low eCPM. Does anyone know why?

How many of you see a search box instead of the link unit?

Thanks.

We've had this before.

My Adlinks provide about 40% of my Adsense earnings and the only time I have ever seen a search box is either when uploading a new page or viewing a page which is hardly ever used.

I've averaged USD 0.20+ EPC for the past two month therefore I would not remove it from my sites!

No, we are not going to remove them either, they work great, but people don't use the search box very much as if they would see the link.

It shows recently a lot of search boxes and much used pages with rich focused content.

AdLinks earn most of my revenue. Depending on the channel, my eCPMs range from ~$1 to ~$5, in a few cases approaching $10.

How do you know this apart from when you personally check those specific pages?

I've never had this problem on even little used pages except where there has been a huge amount of content.

Is there too much for the bot to digest?

I'm the same as berto for eCPM.

I have never had a problem with adlinks. The only time I see a search box in place of the adlink unit is when the adbot is having trouble targeting certain pages. In that case, I almost always get a search box in the adlink unit and a PSA or something similar in the content unit. Offhand, I cannot remember a case in which I have seen a search box in the adlink unit and regular ads in the content unit.

As for adlinks in general, they work very well for me. Their addition to a majority of my pages greatly improved my ecpm. In my case specifically, the adlink units helped target a second set of keywords which were applicable to my site. In spite of a number of efforts to improve the situation, this second set of keywords had always been poorly represented in the content ad units.

Bingo! There seems to be two different ad targeting algorithms at work, one for AdLinks, and another for conventional ad units. On many pages, I observe a schizophrenic split between AdLinks ad themes and conventional ad unit themes.

hi calman
I have 2 questions

(1) do you blend your ad unit into the content and where on the page do you place it.

(2) how many ad units to a page

Iam new to adsence

thank you much

All last week I was getting search boxes in my Adlinks - I had previously seen some very bad targetting. The click through was so pathetic that I rebuilt my site on Thursday but didn't have time to upload it to the server. On Friday I noticed a much better click through and when I checked the pages, Adlinks were back and no Search box - so I scrapped the rewrite.

When Adlinks are working properly (as now) they give me about 10% of my income.

Is that normal? My Page eCPM sits around 100USD. This month it has averaged at 70USD...

<added>oops. Sorry thats not for adlinks. Sorry!</added>

Adlinks have been great for me. But I have noticed that the eCPM varies wildly from day to day, much more than the regular ads. On average they pay more than the regular ads on the pages where I have both.

I'm using a 160x90 Adlinks and one 300x250 regular adblock on most pages.

I have on my main sites on each page in the navigation a

120x90 AdLink
300x250 Ad

The eCPM of the AdLink is only around 10% less than from the bis 300x250 ad.

EPC practicall equal.

So AdLinks have the best revenues per pixel screen space.

I moved my adlink box down the left hand side of my page last night, and it seems to have worked wonders today. Whether it's sustainable is another question. But seeing much better results now..
