Does Google Pay the Same For All Adds Or Are Some Worth More?

Adsense worth

I'm a newbie at Adsense. I have several retail sites that have been up for over a year and are doing decently well. My sales are down lately, so I'm thinking about experimenting with Google AdSense. I will add it to these sites, but I have some questions about Adsense that are unrelated to my current website projects.

I know that advertisers pay considerable amounts for certain keywords. What's unclear is if Google pays the hoster of the adwords (adsense) a percentage of what they make from the advertisers or a flat rate. How would I begin to predict the earning potential?

I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to create a new site that targets certain high-paying keywords (if such things exist). I have no intentions of creating a junk site. I'm just trying to do some research to see if it's worth it to really put the time and effort into creating a good website for the targeted keywords.

You guys seem like experts - or are at least experienced in this area. I'd appreciate your insight.

Google pays the publisher a percentage of what the advertiser pays them. They don't publish the percentage, but most people here would agree that the publisher receives from 50-75%. For various reasons, the amount you are paid can vary widely, even for the same keywords.

I have a fairly focused site, and it surprises me that clicks on the ads vary in payout from pennies to well over a dollar.

Generally, the best approach seems to be to build a good content site, rather than a "made-for-AdSense site"--which is, by the way, specifically prohibited by Google....

Before creating a new site, try AdSense on your existing ones. Experiment to see what works best. You'll learn a lot that will come in handy when and if you create a new site.

The supply of advertisers for big-money keywords is finite.

The supply of publishers competing for clicks from those advertisers is unlimited.

Google does share how they determine or calculate the amount they share with the AdSense publisher. Google also uses a system called “smart pricing” to further adjust advertisers cost (and therefore the publishers share). You can learn some about smart pricing at the following url:
