Dealing with pathetic CTR

One of my site is truly pathetic. I've thought of increasing ad impressons by dividing the content into 2 pages. Obviously the CTR will go down even more, if anyone has tried this already, did this increase or decrease your revenue?

Have you tried everything you can in terms of ad position, colors, formats, etc.?

I find CTR is worse on multi-page articles, so much so I don't put AdSense on them at all.

I tried these, all of which have no effect at all:

Adding pictures above the ads
Blending in ad (background, border, etc.)
Changing link colors from blue, purple, red, green
Tried several positions according to the heatmap

On one of the worst days I got about 10000 impressions and 30 cents.

10,000 impressions and 30 cents? Whoa. That's amazingly bad.

Seems like for some reason the traffic to that site is not interested in the ads they are seeing.

From what you're saying, dividing the pages won't help.

Try a different program, I'd say. Affiliate ads, banner advertising. AdSense doesn't work for every site....

Hi,

Where is your traffic coming from?

Some traffic is just wrong for your site, or wrong entirely.

And I'm assuming you've eliminated spiders and zombie machines (over half of my traffic at a guess), etc, etc...

You should ask yourself; are the people seeing the ads that you are seeing? Maybe there are technical issues involved.

Also look at the ads; if these are ads of which you think your average visitor says "interesting, let's have a look" than CTR should be a lot higher.

However, if you're selling car tires and the ads are for turtle food...

Well sometimes the ads are not relevant. That 30 cents day was the worst day, it is usually about $3 - $5.

Now I have to deal with another problem on my other site, eCPM dropping over 40%, same CTR and advertisers but horrible CPC. Started just 2 days ago but I am sure it will continue and completely ruin my income. Is this smart-pricing in effect? What are some methods of dealing with this?
