I am new to all this internet advertising, and i am at the moment trying to create a website to do with video games or i have looked into creating a blog. I want to make some profit and have been reading about adsense but don't exactly undertsand it. If i was to display an add through adsense that is to do with video games, then for each person that comes to my site can i make a profit?
Let's say my site get's 10,000 hits a month
Is it actually possible to make a dollar from each hit so that would turn out to 10,0000 dollars a month, is this really possible?
I have read through google adsense website and cannot find where it tells you how much you can make, does anyone have a link to a chart from the google site which would tell me this?
I hope anyone can offer me some help as this advertising really seems like a lucrative business and i would very much like to get into it.
Any help much appreciated
Many thanks
Chris

Probably not.

From the "Common Questions" link on the main page of the adsense site, there is this info:
[google.com...]
How much will I earn through this program? The Google ads you are able to display on your content pages can be either cost-per-click (CPC) or cost-per-1000-impressions (CPM) ads, while AdSense for search results pages show exclusively CPC ads. This means that advertisers pay either when users click on ads, or when the advertiser's ad is shown on your site. You'll receive a portion of the amount paid for either activity on your website. Although we don't disclose the exact revenue share, our goal is to enable publishers to make as much or more than they could with other advertising networks.
The best way to find out how much you'll earn is to sign up and start showing ads on your web pages. There's no cost, no obligation, and getting started is quick and easy. You can sign up now from the AdSense home page at [google.com...] .
The last paragraph there pretty much sums it up. The best way to find out how much *your* site would earn with adsense is to signup and test it out.
[In response to iblaine, I'd just add that clicks you get are more likely to pay between 1-2 cents up to 30-50 cents tops. It does go higher for very specialized areas, but nowhere near $50. There's the occasional yeti-sighting of a $50 click, but I'm skeptical they exist whatsoever.]
Is it free to signup?
I can't signup till i have a site up and running right?
Do google come to my site and look at the kind of site it is and do they make the advert that is to do with the text on my site?
I don't understand still, a few years back i read quite a bit on internet advertising and people were saying back then you could make a dollar a click or even 2 dollars a click. You know those sites where when you get to their home page a load of advert pop up on your desktop, like 7 adverts pop up and you have to go and close them just to find another pops up. Well these people back all those years ago were saying you can make a dollar from each pop up, is this really true?
I also read quite recently that big companies that are driving traffic like 1 million hits a month are able to get adverts that make 5 dollars for every click, but then i don't understand as like you said it can't be 5 dollars times each click which in this case means 5 million dollars profit.
There are a lot of different advertising, is adsense the best?
The profit you make from the ads is it tax free?
I am based in the UK, so if i was to setup a account with a USA based advertiser like google adsense are there problems with that, will i have to pay more tax than usual?
all help much appereicated
thanks in advance
Chris
No, you can't apply until you have a site.
No, the profits are not tax-free.
You really need to read the FAQs and other information at [google.com...] to get a basic understanding of the program.
Also, read some of the "I've been banned by AdSense" threads on this forum to learn what NOT to do (such as clicking on your own ads or encouraging others to do so).
For business and tax information, visit your public library and ask the reference librarian for help. (He or she should be able to point you to how-to books for owners of home-based businesses in the UK.)
Also can i setup a blog which is blank but then go ahead and singup for adsense and tell google what the site is going to be about and then get them to make me an advert while i start writing things into my blog, is this possible?
Once i have adsense running on a blog can i call all my mates and tell them to click every now and then on my blog for about a few hours every day, would i make money from the clicks or would google know? I could even have another computer connected to the net and be clicking on my adds, is this possible without google finding out?
ofcourse from the above i am not going to go doing that but just want to know if it's possible?
thanks in advance
Chris

EFV I think you are starting to develop some precognition powers - bitten by a spider lately? ;0)

Nope dude! You need to play by the rules or you'll be out of the game sooner than you can say "Ads by Goooo"
Anyways - it's good that you are clearing your doubts before starting - it takes time to make decent money from adsense - which will happen as your site grows - what you need to do is be consistent with your development and in a year's time you'll have a stable source of income [as stable it can get in any business]
I have just finished reading the guidelines, policies, terms and conditons. I think i understand them, i will re-read them again to fully re-inforce the text into my mind.
tebrino i know you said wait for a few months and then signup for adsense, well i don't see any harm in signing up now or tomorrow. I will stick to the rules and see if this adsense makes me money, if not then i will go back to running my ecommerce store.
In the past i made a website which gave a very comical read for people that visisted my site, within 14 months i had 85,000 hit's and i did my own site promoting, i think if i updated my site everyday then in that time frame i think i would of hit over a million hits in a year. Back then i didn't know about advertising so i could of done very well with the 85,000 hits. So i am thinking of now creating a new comical blog and getting loads of hits that will turn into profit, think about it even if i was getting 0.05 cents then times that by 85,000 dollars and you end up with 4,250 dollars. and that's only calcualted on 0.05 cents per click which is 20 times of 1 dollar, imagine if google give me 0.10 or even 0.5 then that's a lot of money. I think if i stick to the books and play it safe i could turn this into a profitability business and jump in within the next few days.
well any comments would be much appreciated on my ideas, because i think yes i could jump in and do all the wrong things but it was just today that i came accross this i have been reading this site for a few weeks but still am a new comer and just registering for these forums today. I think if i stick to what your allowed to do then this could work well.
thanks
Chris
Oh... and should have also mentioned, yes, Google looks for patterns and will know about clicks from your mates. You won't get paid anything for those clicks and would also risk losing your account... for life!
You should be thinking in terms of either "visitors" or "page views".
Finally, pay attention to spaceylacie and understand that this will not make you rich quick (or probably ever). There are an awful lot of people here in this forum who probably make less than the local minimum wage, if you add up all the time they spend on their site in a month.
The above info came to me from a while back where i noticed when i got to this site they had this big banner advertising low cost calls, and i heard that when you get to the site even if you don't click on that banner you still make a profit as the banner is connected to people coming to your site.
So is there anything like this out there?
Also this adsense cost per click is simply someone clicks your add and then you get paid whatever price.
But i don't understand this cost per thousand, i have read on the google site and on these forums about it and it says in the example you do 1000 hits x 1% x 30 days x amount per click = your answer but i don't understand what the 1% is for, any ideas?
on adsense can you choose if you want CPC or CPM? I can't seem to understand why they would include CPM when CPC seems the better option when you can make money per click unless i am missing the point, any ideas on that aswell?
Can you lose money on adsense or even other advertising programs?
Many thanks
Oh and i am not trolling, really i am not. I am just looking to learn this business as much as i can. I apologise if i am being a pain asking too much but forums are for learning and sharing your experiences i just hope we can all help eachother.
