Anyone had experienced any changes on visitors behaviour after including adsense ads on a well established site?
I mean, do you have any of your regular visitors complaining because "the site is getting commercial", or some other subject regarding the ads?
Or perhaps they lose some interest in your site contents?

No effect.

No complains after nearly 1 million visitors seeing the ads.

Many peopöe even do not realize the money involved in the ads. They think it's a nice service from Google and the site owner to put some usefull links on the site.

Some of the "Net Purests" think everything on the Internet should be FREE! These are the same people who think nothing of "sharing" MP3s while denying the artists a means of earning an honest living using their talents. These same people also tend to be the one's that complain about revealing their identities for legitimate purpose as it is an infringement on their "civil right" to remain anonymous. Ultimately many of these types of people want to make their "millions" using the Internet... while everyone else on the Net deserve nothing.

Unfortunately, the Internet has an abundant supply of whining ner'do-wells as they expect everything to be given to them for free and can't even grasp the notion earning a living by contributing positively to society. They just see negative...

Just ignore them and continue on with your business. They lack the conviction to keep raising a stink - especially when others point out the folly of their views, and will soon disappear to complain somewhere else... But they are a dying breed as those being raised on the Net see nothing wrong with commercialization of the Net.

No problems.

I do try to strike a balance between the user experience and advertising, though--no popups or popunders, and I don't let ads overwhelm the editorial content. (One way for a mom-and-pop publisher to compete with the big corporate guys is to offer a better user experience.)

Only had one problem long time back when I was only running fastclick and tribal fusion.

Those Banner ads that say you are visitor # so and so and you have won a free such and such made a lot of trouble for me. Constantly explaining advertisements and how they were not an integral part of my site, etc.

I got several emails wanting to know how to claim their prise and where to "sign in" to get it shipped>

Went to FC and turned those off fast!

A time back they were running a banner that spawned a popup and got some complaints about it. After I killed that I changed my options so I could decide when, what, and which ad ran on my website.

Other than that-no problemos.

Out of similar reasons, my URL filter is filled with many MLM sites.

I really do not want to receive an email like "Do You really think MLM is a solution for the unemployment"

yes, in fact adsense is helping to retain a good user experience while providing the money required to maintain the website.

i'm monitoring the marketing strategy some of my competitors pursue (and most of the big guys, too).

with all their popups and oh-so-advanced layers i'm rather amused. that keeps on driving annoyed users to me.
and if all others use ads that overlap the content, i will never do that as long as there are fair alternatives. let them all go the wrong way..

I had no problems.

I simply added a line to the existing site terms page explaining that the reason for the ads was to offset the costs of hosting the site. But nobody ever reads that guff anyway!

In my case, I have the banners on a limited number of pages where I know adsense will work, so that visitors aren't seeing ad on all pages - that *would* be considered commercial!

Actually I have a rather academic site (the kind that lists all references used in an article at the bottom of the page.) I was a little concerned about how my visitors would react to AdSense but I have not had one complaint. I do not run any ads with graphics though and the text ads are so unintrusive I guess people aren't offended by them. It also helps that they are all related to the topic.

I've been using AdSense for about a year and a half and pretty much all my pages have adsense on them.

Over 10 million ad views recorded so far and not a single complaint. I think that says something.

I have a large educational site and have been running adsense for six months now. There have been no complaints about the ads nor unfavorable comments. I view them as an aid to my visitors for them to be able find information related to the page content.
