With what I am making now, if ad prices ever rise significantly, and I have the same traffic and ctr I would be very very wealthy.
It could happen! Everything is going up so why not advertising?
Just musing.

This website has nothing to do with travel to paris, rome or anywhere exotic and/or expensive. Nor is this site's subject matter related to plasma televisions, insurance of any kind, malpractice lawsuits, child custody or INS issues. Furthermore, this site will not delve into subjects like the exchange of currencies or publicly traded stocks, automobiles in whole or by the part, precious metals, gems or diamonds.
I'm sure you could add to that but it couldn't hurt ; )
Knowing what field you're in, it may be that you're topping out at 8¢ per click... I dunno. If you have time, you might want to spend some time building another site about something that you learn has advertisers with deep pockets. You already know from my sticky mail what my sites are about. My hint is that the topics that you'd think have rich advertisers do. My highest paying clicks come from two of those topics. The rest are usually less than 10¢ each. I often fantasize about all the money I'd be making now if I got the 1000 clicks/day I get with the average click payout I get from those 2 sites. I'd be in the 5-figure club. Sigh... ahh, to sleep, perchance to dream.
Yep, fraid that is entirely true.
BTW, I am almost finished my new site, completely unrelated to the other two :) ,
so I am hoping. Got a couple more ideas too.
Have to wait now to get my sight repaired---can barely see.
Had a laser procedure on the left that was supposed to give that eye better sight (?) and I go to a specialist tuesday to see about repairing the hole in the macula of the right eye. I seem to be coming apart or is it just fraying at the edges ;)
Darn, guess I will have to learn fast touch typing. LOL

Let me know when you get your first $20K check just for one advertiser for a 3 month campaign, and that's just ONE advertiser, then we'll talk.
Just thought it might be nice to get rich(er). As long as I am breathing I consider myself rich, LOL

I have no idea what your site topic is, but what has raised my earnings per click is to block ebay and any advert for a site that is made for adsense. This has the effect of putting advertisers who sell goods and services on my site - they pay better.
Because an ad is showing, doesn't mean to say it's the best payer. The bot selects ads on what Google *think* will be best payer based on a whole lot of factors. On my site what clearly works best are the ones that have lower ctr but higher bids. My site is tightly focussed, and the tighter the targetting the better!
Words of caution should you try this:-
Be aware that it's a gamble - it may well work against you!
Don't block all the ads at once - do it slowly. Smartpricing hates change and reacts badly (downwards).
Expect a lower ctr, and possibly lower earnings to start with until smartpricing decides your site is worth more. That can be a while, but I started to see a rise in epc that has continued in a couple of weeks. My ctr is lower than when I had the made for adsense junk displaying, but the earnings are WAY higher. There is a trade off between clicks and possibly higher epc, but advertisers actually selling good and services on a quality site is much better than just showing ads directed at siphoning off your traffic to click their ads!
Don't block competitors that may pay well - just made for adsense.
Not complaining, I was just dreaming out loud so to speak.
I guess I wanted to hear some dreams of others also but keep the suggestions coming. Just because I already did some of them other people reading this thread may find some gems...and I am keeping my ears open for some I haven't read or thought of. ;)

Add a disclaimer to to the top of your website:

I'm tempted to do this.
Oh Ann, I barely started with the overview concept...
Limit your dedicated server to 100 domains each so they don't get too overloaded, get a bank of 50 servers each with 100 domains making $50/domain/day x 100 domains/server x 50 servers = $250,000/day or $91,250,000 annually.
Guess I need to hire some people quick as I'm way behind!
If it only was that simple..
My dream would be to make more than $1 million a year. If only my traffic levels could increase 15x with CTR and EPC staying roughly the same..

I am thinking it has to do with Hurricane Rita coming. We see a slow down of about two weeks after any major USA disaster. Could it be the rally is trying to get the getting while the getting is good before Rita hits, the markets go wild, gas jumps sky high and the compass points south?
Seems to me there are those who are hedging their bets. It is not just one industry bidding up their keywords...it is quite a few. Very odd time of the week, time of the month, and time of the season to see this wild bidding.
Anyone else see this?
