Confusing about adsense units

I understand that google only allows three units per screen/page maximum.

What is 3 units exactly?

So on the page, if you have one set of adsense, one set of adlinks and one google search. Is this three units?

or google search does not count as a unit?

can someone please clarify what is meant by units and whats allowed per page.

My understanding of this is that you can have up to three AdSense units, one Adlinks, and one search box, all on the same page. If I'm wrong, I hope someone corrects me.

Of course, it might not be a good idea to put that much on a page, even if you can....

You can have:

3 ad units
2 adsense for search boxes
1 link unit

icedowl is correct. Each of the examples pictured on the following page under the headings 'Text ads' and 'Image ads' is considered one ad unit:

As you can see, examples of link unit formats are pictured at the bottom of the same page.

Yes, although using all of them on most pages might be just a bit too much. The ad units further down in the code could often be empty or display PSAs (Public Service Ads).

Yes, two of them.

You can place 2 AdSense for search boxes on one page, but as mentioned already it might be more effective to use only one. It's your choice.
