Boring, boring skyscraper unit

120X600 unit - just a few lines of test.

Hello Everyone

I've got a 120X600 wide skyscraper ad unit on my site. Recently I've noticed that a single advertiser tends to be dominating this space on many of my pages.

The problem is that their ad is just a few lines of text and mainly white space. I looked at their URL (not clicking on it of course), and it goes to a sign up page for a newsletter.

I just wish that the advertiser had tried harder. It upsets the look of my site, and I don't think that it is helping the advertiser to get traffic.

Any similar experiences?

That may not be by choice of the advertiser. Google recently started expanding single ads to fill part or all of a multi-ad unit when their system concluded that this would be more lucrative for you and for Google.

Ah thanks hunderdown. That makes complete sense. Note that I did not state a reduction in income! So it seems that it does work (albeit a little plain).

And don't forget that you can block that ads url if necessary.

Personally I wouldn't mess with it if it is producing good CTR but if it really looks that bad...
