One click, no revenue

Did they know it was me? Is it now ok to click?

I right clicked on an ad on my site to display the properties. Then I remembered it was a flash ad so I couldn't view the size. I clicked on my screen to close the pane that had opened. Inadvertently, my click to close the pane was on my adsense ad. Anywho, I reported it to adsense and I'm not worried about any repercussions. The cool thing is, before I reported it, the click showed up in my stats. It was the only click all day on this channel. There is no revenue associated with the click. Obviously, they know it was me.
Does this mean we are approaching a time when we can click with impunity from our base IP? That would sure be cool. The ability is definitely there.

My wife accidentaly clicked an ad in an obscure channel and it was also not recorded.

Of course its not ok to click.

Something similar happened to me not too long ago. I checked the channel and there were no earnings associated with that click. I think that they do know and have something in their algo that discounts mistaken clicks. It could even have something to do with certain publishers.

Adsense would be doing their publishers a massive favour if they discounted clicks from their own PC. Publishers could channel all of their nervous energy into building even more pages and return more value to shareholders.

It's always been like this. If you click on an ad from an IP address which you have also used to check your stats, then there is a good chance the publisher clicked on their own ad and google will not count the revenue. However, it is a good idea to not click since I'm sure enough clicks would trigger something.

As you know, clicking on your own ads for any reason is prohibited by AdSense program policies. Powdork, if you'd like you can email [e-mail] to let them know about the accidental click. It's always a good idea to alert Support if you accidentally click on an ad, or if you notice anything funny in your statistics.

I highly recommend downloading the Google AdSense preview tool, and I think if you write to AdSense Support, they'll tell you the same :). The preview tool will allow you to view your ad inventory and click through to the destination URL without charging advertisers or generating invalid clicks to your account.
