some of you may have seen my post this morning about this issue. I am a Brit but currently in Italy working.

G sent me a mail this morning saying my account had been cancelled due to me being in italy. picked heart and stomach off the floor and replied to them that i could provide a uk or irish address for them if required.

title of their mail was "Italian VAT restrictions" which may mean something to someone....something about taxes, then!

they have now mailed me back saying I could change payee address via the site which I had done earlier today anyway. This probably effects quite a few people and maybe other countries.

Lesson learnt from today: I AM WAAAAAAAY TOO RELIANT ON ADSENSE! I have six or seven other sources of income on my site but adsense provides about 60 to 70% of my income. Scary.

Does anyone know anything else about what it is about Italian VAT that is causing Italy-based publishers from not being permitted to join AdSense? Is it temporary or permanent?

esllou, I am glad you found a way to work around this, but I have not seen anything mentioned in the AdSense terms/faq/policies that states that certain countries are not eligable to join AdSense. Previously, I had only heard of the language restrictions for the actual web content. But nothing due to where a publisher actually lived.

Anyone?

Can't speak from experience, but the article below (Italian only) refers to issues with VAT (IVA in Italy) payments and webmasters.

If it's what I think it is, it's something to do with invoicing small/one-man-band companies - webmasters may well have their own VAT number (Partita IVA) and their own company (Ditta Individuale) but there are particular problems with the fiscal regulations that apply only to this smaller type of business. Same for affiliate payments in some areas.

The article says that just a few sites were accepted before Google Italia had to stop Adsense. It also says that the wait before things get going again is likely to be a long one, and the the head of sales for Google Italia (Massimiliano Magrini) could not provide any sort of estimate as how long it would be before a solution is found.

Don't hold your breath.
