Hi Guys,

I've been triyng to understand why very popular websites like ebaumsworlds & funnyvideos and all those websites that feature funny content (funny videos, funny pictures, jokes, etc)do not use the AS program on their websites? I know the clicks are not worth more than 7 - 8 cents each, but still those sites generate hundreds of thousands of visitors/pageviews a day and Im sure they could make some decent money!

But after I researched more than a dozen of funny websites that feature this type of content only one was showing adsense on the site!?! Im triyng to figure out why? but can't find a reason yet....

what are your taughts on this?

I ask because Im planning one of those sites and of curse I'd like to as adsense to it...

Probably because they get a better return using other programs.

Have you tried the Adsense preview tool on these sites? It might be difficult to match adverts to their content.

Entertainment sites usually work better with CPM advertising, like Fastclick or Casalemedia

I heard they don't use AdSense because the CTR is very low, just like the EPC.

This one is right up my alley.

I have one of those sites, and its probably the only one using adsense on it. (maybe the one you seen)

I have good traffic with more than 20,000 pages views daily. The income generated from this type of site doesnt come close to what sites with coherent content generate.

Here is the problem with this type of site.

1) Banwidth....... your going to need some, and that isnt cheap.

2) People coming to this type of site, are just out to surf and chill out, not shop. Sometimes something may catch their eye, but thats about it.

So in conclusion. This type of site requires alot of work. Getting videos, editing then, perhaps reformating them, thumbnails and massive bandwidth all for 5 cents. So you'll need to enjoy making the site, not just out to make a buck.

Good luck

I would also think those sites are prone to click attacks with drunk college students clicking away on the ads. I know, I used to be one.

First,
1) Banwidth....... your going to need some, and that isnt cheap.

First time I've heard that in a long time... anybody that's been around for a few years will tell you just how cheap bandwidth is. As long as you have a sound earnings plan in place before you get huge traffic, this won't be a problem. Just be sure to go with a company that has a good reputation for uptime, fast load times, and won't shut off your account as soon as you pass your limit. You can even save some money and upgrade your plan if you think you'll go over your limit, just don't get too nuts and sign onto a plan that will be way above your means or projected growth.

Up until a few weeks ago I owned about 250k visitors a day worth of entertainment sites, and had done well with them... I can't say there was ever a problem with net earnings in the red. I can't say that there was ever a banner network worth putting up. Any decent CPM's resulted in popups and activex consoles. As for PPC... always pretty low.

Not only does AS not work on these types of sites because of low paying content, most entertainment sites violate the AS TOS in one way or another. You can take your pick, but the biggest violation most sites end up with is putting ads next to mature material. Another problem is content control. E/N sites thrive off of user interaction, but there will always be bad eggs. If you have a user posting offensive content that you don't remove in time, bye bye AS earnings. If you have any kind of AS earnings outside of that single site, it's simply a bad idea.

What does work on entertainment sites are the cpa ads that pay on zip codes or email addresses, dating site ads, sometimes even DVD's. The majority of funny/entertainment sites eventually go down the adult route -- just know that if you do this, you're closing that most mainstream income that is available to you is instantly gone.

If you have any more questions, I'm happy to help, only a PM away.

SincerelySandy

If the humor site is on a particular subject, and you have other sites on the same subject that are more informational or product oriented, then you may find that the real benifit is in the extra traffic you could get by linking your humor site to the informational or product site. You may make decent money on the humor site with AS, especially if the humor is on a certain subject and if you make sure that the pages have content that the AS bot understands and can display relevant ads to, but you may find you increase your AS earnings on your other related sites even more.
Humor sites often don't need search engine traffic so the income you generate from them and the traffic that it can send to your other sites, can be very stable. IMO any site that does not need search engines for traffic is special.

tebrino, No I di not try the preview tool yet, but that sounds like a good idea :)I will try with that.

I guess my major concern is violating the AS TOS. I've heard that is dangerous and risky....but can someone tell me where do you think I will violate the TOS with a funny site if I don't use any adult sponsors?

I contacted some funny website owners and it seems like its ok to run AS as long as the site avoids porn content...so I'll guess Ill give it a try and will keep you posted guys
