Hi there,

I haven't had time to put section targeting code on my pages yet since I have been very busy for the last 2 months. Now i am kinda relax and thinking about inserting the code on my pages. However, I really wonder if it is going to work? and I would like to hear some experiences from people who have tried the section targeting. Overall, my targeting is not bad, but why not if it really helps to increae my ctr.

I would really appreciate any comments..

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely.

I was getting totally unrelated ads on my index page. I added the "emphasize tags" and started getting well targeted ads in about 2 hours.

I'm beginning to wonder if section targeting hurts returns - at least in some contexts. I added it to my forum to try to get better ad matching, and it is hard to tell whether or not that has had much impact. However eCPM performance suggests the possibility that the section targeting may reducing the value of ads served.

Two theories, which are not mutually exclusive, come to mind: 1. The ads which were matched somewhat generically to the page content are now classified as even worse matches by Google, which diminishes their value under "smart pricing", and/or 2. The more specifically targeted ads have lower value than the more generic ads they replaced.

Of course, as with pretty much everything else about AdSense, it could also be coincidence.

I tried the ignore tags for my navigational bars... bad idea. I lost all my CPM advertisers as a result. Money went down.

I tried them on a few pages when they came out and am now removing them to see what difference if any it makes.

Problem is with AS there are just so many variables that it is difficult to know exactly what works and what doesn't so will monitor over the coming weeks and see what happens to overall earnings.

I (mostly) had well targetted ads before I put the code on, and afterwards the targetting concentrated on some of the irrellevant words in the selected text and gave me lots of irrelevant ads. I removed the code and it worked fine after G had spidered the page again.

I would consider trying it on other pages, but to be honest, provided the target bot hasn't got a hangover and gone into "Bad tempered" mode I tend to see relevant ads a reasonable part of the time.
