How do you all do it? I have a regular job (a web designer), and they are nice enough to let me work from home. But I find myself constantly working on a site that has nothing to do with my regular job! The one that I make money on from Adsense. I'm always trying to learn more about adsense, change the layouts, test, etc ...

I need some kind of plan! I spend way to much time on this subject. Plus, I'm always checking stats! Good Grief!

is that only from one site?

My main site is from April 1997.

I tried 1999 to 2000 some banner advertising.
Brought nearly nothing, and I gave up.

I created 2002
special-theme.my-site.com
as a sub domain to test out concepts
and to write about it.

I applied autumn 2003 for AdSense, but they did not accept German sites at this time.

February 2004, I created
other-special-theme.my-site.com

Also just as a free work to show that it's possible to create an online magazine just by search engines.
Just to impress internet promotion clients.

5 June 2004, I received an email from Google.
"When will You start..."

Since June last year, I added 3 other theme oriented sub domains.

My wife started to translate 2 of the subdomains to English.

I increased from 38 thousand visitors and a pathetic low CPM to 100 thousend visitors per month and a very nice CPM.

I have also some other domains with AdSense,
but 90% are my main domain with the theme oriented subdomains.

It sounds like many of you suffer from Google AdSense Stats Syndrome (G.A.S.S.). You might be interested in these recent posts from the Inside AdSense blog:

Interesting topic. I'm currently in a somewhat similar situation as the original poster and decided to go the freelance route myself, including:
- keeping (relying on) my current day job
- changing work hours to 4x9
- reporting my commercial activities there
- using their facilities (even under their work hours :)

But that's because my hobbies (automatisation of information management, more or less) accidently happen to make money, I just want to spend more time on them, and AdSense just entered one of them.
Might as well call it a service, deliver my products, and send my customer a bill along the way... while keeping focused on the things I like to do.

I'm probably missing something here, but I'm going to try anyway.

Yes, I know focusing your efforts on running ads(ense) on a site succesfully (only) is different. But if that's what you love to do then why not offer that as a service to others and make it your job, gradually? If you're any good it will pay off, if you're not then... is this hobby really that much time worth spending? (for some it still is, I guess)

I used to check my stats every hour when I first started. Everytime I logged in, I would see a couple extra pennies and sometimes nothing at all. I realized I should be spending that time on improving my sites instead.

Now I check it once every few days, on rare occasions (such as adding new sites), I check every 24 hours. You just need to understand that checking your stats is not going to make you more money.

Hope this helps.

Ok... I am really jealous. I only tried AdWords a couple times, but it only cost me money. I don't wish to compete with any of you, but can someone give me an idea of how to make some money with GOOGLE? I am smart and can write, but not very poor right now.

Going out helps a lot. Also, buy yourself a small sports machine and work your muscles everyday! Fresh air and burning muscles will let you forget meaningless problems and make you a happier person, day by day.

Soemtimes, it's a big luck to have no internet access to watch the stats.

18 and 19 August had been very low earning days.

But I was on vacation and visited the internet cafe only 2 times a week.

So I checked stats only several days later as daily statistic recovered to normal range.

If I would have checked 18 August, I would have had total panic, would have checked every 45 minutes and the 2 days would have been total ruined.

And on return keep yourself from checking stats, shower first :)

I reckon google should have a feature that allow us to choose how long the adsense stats will be updated. You know like every 15 mins, 6 hours, 12 hours or 24 hours..

Then I'll be choosing the 12 hours one, so I can spend my time for work rather than checking on the stats

Then I'll be choosing the 12 hours one, so I can spend my time for work rather than checking on the stats

I had this feature on the camping place.

My Austrian mobile phone provider gives
15.-EUR roaming penalty for 1 MB GPRS trafic in Italy.

So I never check my stats with GPRS when I am not in Austria.

So I had to go for every stats and email check about 1 km to the next internet cafe.
