I know the more article pages on your site the more places to put Google Ads.

Do most of you guys/gals write your own articles, or do you get them from places like findarticles.com or articlecity.com.

Is it lame to have all your articles coming from these places?

I use a lot of articles from Article City, etc. I don't see the pages getting good SE position and there seems to be a duplicate content penalty on many of them.

Also, I occasionally get threatened with law suits from the article writers if I don't remove their "copywrited material"! Ahhh, but didn't you put the article on Article City with a resource box (which I included)? Go figure. I just remove them and let it go.

I write my own.
But I do have some that people write and submit for a link/ad for their site. Or sometimes people who are just knowledgeable on the subject and want to share their story, tips, etc.

but I have a niche site that isn't super competitive. I imagine it's harder to get articles when you get into more competetive areas, but I dunno.

I don't use those sites. I have my own article submission page that writers use to submit their articles for possible publication on my site. I publish about 10% of what's submitted to me, and rest are my own articles. I keep all the submissions to me (those that I use) to show to writers who complain why their articles are on my site that they submitted it to me in the first place. If I get those types of complaints from writers, I immediately remove their articles and ban them on my site. I don't really need them - their articles are just fillers for my site.

I've had people plagiarize my content and put it on sites like that under their own byline. I've even had my work unapologetically sold through a "content provider"... let's call it "AdSense Mold".

Thanks for your input.

I do have a niche site (horses) so I think I'll try and have people submit articles and in exchange I'll put their contact/link information with it.

A lot of good ideas here.

The site I am building now may well lend itself to scientific studies and I can foresee actually asking professionals for articles....

Ahhhh, dreams. First I have to finish it and get it up in rank and serps....

putting nose back to grindstone.

If you have to get your content from sites like this I suggest that you put in NOFOLLOW,NOINDEX tag on those pages.

Most search engines hate duplicate content.

RudyToot - is it on horse racing? I seem to see a lot of horse racing/betting sites advertised in various affiliate programs.

can you sticky me your site? I like horses :)

Got a Q on using duplicate content. If you use articles from other people and they are published on other sites, will it hurt your site in the SE? Or will it just hurt that page's ranking (give the page a duplicate penalty)?
