Irrelevent AdSense Ads

What can I do?

AdSense seems smart *sometimes* at determined appropriate ads by crawling my content, but sometimes it is downright WRONG. For example, I have a page about Downtown Portland Oregon. I have "downtown portland oregon" in the title tag, the H1, and several places throughout the content...and what does AdSense give me? Five ads about water fountains! And, there is a district in Portland called the Pearl District which has a lot of popular loft condos....and I'm getting ads for lofts and condos in Minneapolis/St Paul. So wierd. Clearly I'm not going to get clickthroughs off of this. I've done thorough SEO work on these pages...what else can I do to ensure relevent AdSense content?

Thanks.

Hi,

Any ETA on when this section target[t]ing feature will be available to all users (ie including me!)?

ASA?

Damon:

What do you mean?

Don't you see the page? Or is it because you see that Apply link up in the corner?

I just used it.

Hi,

If I try to look at the Google FAQ link above I just get an error telling me that there is no such page.

If I go into my AS account and look for section targeting in the help or for any controls there is nothing to be found.

cabbagehead:

Try visiting [google.com...] and search for the term 'section targeting'.

Also, you might want to try clearing your browser cache and deleting your browser cookies.

Section targetting isn't working beans for me. I put section targetting all over the page, carefully hacking out what should not be used for ads, but EVERY ad is related to the sections of the page that are supposed to be ignored.

Go figure.

jonathanleger -

Before giving up on section targeting, make sure you give our crawlers ample time to re-index the content of your site with the new tags.

We don't manually crawl web pages, so it may take a week or so before your site is re-indexed and relevant ads begin to appear.

Hi,

Cleared cache and cookies and even switched back to IE6 temporarily and cannot see anything for section targeting in my account, not even in help!

Am I the only person in AS without this feature yet? Bv<

Look under Adsense support, Damon. It's just a couple of sniplets you paste in your html.

Before the ignore section:
<!-- google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) -->

After the ignore section:
<!-- google_ad_section_end(weight=ignore) -->

That's it.

<edit--->this is code to tell it what to ignore, other code is just without the (weight=ignore)- you should be able to find it under Google support>

Hi SL,

Thanks! No, there is nothing to be found (for me) under support at all. I have mailed ASA and support to ask why, but no resolution yet; the link I got from AS support is broken too (maybe there is one stale server).

What other weightings are there other than ignore?

The link to section targeting appears on my overview page, but clicking it takes me to a 'page not found' page...

Seems that it just doesn't work for UK publishers at the mo?
